Historic District & Buildings

In 2009, the Main Street Historic District was formally designated by National Register of Historic Places. Townscape produced a history of Millerton and conducted a historical survey of all the buildings within
the village of Millerton. Designation as a historic district with the National Register of Historic Places provides a focus for restoration and gives property owners eligibility for tax incentives when
restoring their properties. In addition, this designation provides a draw for tourism, creates
educational opportunities in the local schools and community organizations, and qualifies the
village for specialized improvement grants. Townscape has also partnered with the
Village of Millerton and the Town of North East to restore Millerton’s Main Street clocktower.
